Coastal Adaptive Sports is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, with our focus on promoting adaptive sports for people with disabilities. While we offer programs in various sports, surfing has become one of the most sought after adaptive sports activities for our community.

Our mission is to make sports fun for people with disabilities, as such, we partner with an array of organizations who share that goal with us. One such entity is Move United, which has been a delightful partner for our endeavors in recent years.

Based out of Rockville, Maryland, Move United is another Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting adaptive sports in various events. Since it was founded in 1956, Move United has promoted over 70 adaptive sports. Throughout its over 70 years of operation, the nonprofit has also supported several community organizations that offer adaptive sports activities and events.

Move United is led by a dedicated team of individuals, who are all committed to the cause of making adaptive sports more accessible and popular across the United States. With designated staff members such as member services coordinators just a call or a text away, the organization leads with the example of transparency in all its activities.

As of 2022, Move United has established its network to over 200 community member organizations, all of which are dedicated to making sports activities more accessible for people with disabilities. With the support of these member organizations, Move United now serves over 100,000 individuals per year.

Move United not only holds programs and events for adaptive sports, but also offers assistance for finding adaptive equipment across the U.S. This ensures that athletes with disabilities can easily train for their beloved sports and fulfill their aspirations. Through these small steps that go a long way, the organization and its team continues to show that it holds its mission close to heart.

With its goal to be accessible to aspiring and established athletes across the United States, Move United has over 200 locations across the country. Through these member locations, it becomes easy for athletes to find a facility that offers programs for their favorite sports. This allows people to discover different ways to train and participate in the sporting events that mean the most to them.

Besides these solutions that make adaptive sports more accessible, affordable, and fun for everyone, Move United also holds a variety of events to expand and strengthen the adaptive sports community. Some of these most recent programs affiliated with the organization include wheelchair football tryouts, wheelchair racing competitions, and basketball events.

But Move United has not let its achievements and impact diminish its strive for making adaptive sports a well-recognized medium for its athletes. With this in mind, the organization plans that for 90 percent of Americans, at least one Move United location will be available within 50 miles. The organization aims to achieve this goal by 2028.

In order to get involved with Move United’s mission, you can join the organization as an athlete, volunteer, or an employee.
